New York Wholesale Dresses Buying Strategies Presented in New Video by Donny Lowy, the CEO of Closeout Explosion

May 23rd, 2013

(PRWEB) May 03, 2013

New York Wholesale Dresses buying strategies are presented in a new video by Donny Lowy, the CEO of Closeout Explosion. The video offers important strategies and ideas that can be used by retailers to make sure that they are purchasing the appropriate brands and styles for their market. As a wholesale website that caters to both domestic and international wholesale buyers, CloseoutExplosion.com has supplied brand name clothing to boutiques, retailers, market vendors, and importers, in countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Trinidad, Lebanon, Singapore, Jamaica, and Kenya. Through the process of distributing high end office dress wear to shops located throughout the globe, Donny Lowy has learned the importance of brand recognition in the local marketplace, as well as the matching of the style of the outfits to the demands and likes of the local customer base.

Whether its learning that Nigerian boutiques provide bankers in Lagos with Tahari office dresses, or stores that cater to lawyers in Trinidad like social BCBG dresses, its imperative that retailers know how to determine the type of apparel that they need for their shops, and how to navigate online wholesale sources and designer showrooms for the overstock merchandise that they need, expressed Donny, who exports designer wear at below wholesale prices from his Brooklyn warehouse.

One of the advantages to marketing fashion products online, and having a closeout warehouse close to the New York Fashion District, is that I have developed experience in working with resellers from a wide range of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American, European, and Middle Eastern countries. By understanding the reasons why a retailer in Abuja needs a corporate dress, or a boutique in Port of Spain needs a social dress, it allows me to be able to offer buying advice to resellers. Although there are many suppliers listed in online directories and on liquidation sites such as WholesaleCentral.com, CloseoutCentral.com, Liquidation.com, JacobsTrading.com, Genco.com, DHGate.com, WholesaleFashionSquare.com, TheWholesaleMerchandise.com, and GetThatWholesale.com, a retailer still needs to have practical strategies that she can utilize to make the best inventory stocking choices for her shop. This is especially important when a retailer ventures into places where they are literally thousands of closeout companies, such as in the New York Garment District, the New York Wholesale Expo, Dallas Mart, the Miami Wholesale Expo, ASD Las Vegas Wholesale Show, and the Los Angeles Fashion District, added Donny, who has been interviewed by Entrepreneur Magazine, along with other online and offline publications.

While the strategies presented in this informative online presentation are aimed at dress shops, the ideas can also be applied to vendors of designer handbags, brand name shoes, and fashionable accessories. Vendors can visit the Brooklyn showroom to select their merchandise, or can place an order online for an assortment of different brands, such as Coach, Guess, BCBG, Tahari, Jones New York, Kasper, Calvin Klein, Nine West, Steve Madden, Aerosoles, and Rampage. Customers can buy by the piece, the pallet, or the truckload. International customers welcome, with international shipping done through freight forwarders such as Schenker, Express Air Freight, Brady Cargo, and Tropical Shipping.

How To Sheer Foundation With A Sultry Bronze Cat Eye

May 17th, 2013

I don’t know about you, but every time I think of trying to master the art of foundation, a little piece of my soul dies. It’s the one aspect of makeup that has literally taken me a lifetime to figure out. There’s such a fine line between not getting enough coverage and putting on so much that I end up looking like a mime. (Editors note: Maddie has this problem, Meg loves sheer foundation so much she wears it while home alone, truth. But now she’s excited to upgrade her one makeup obsession with skillz.)

Which is why I wasn’t surprised when we polled the APW community asking what you hoped to get out of the P&G Beauty Tutorials, and one of the first things you asked for was how to do sheer foundation that lets the natural texture of your skin show through. And this look totally hits that nail on the head. Our lovely model, Chloe, has a gorgeous face full of freckles and we didn’t want to ruin it by covering up what makes her look like, well, herself. So Shana gave us all the tips and tricks for achieving wedding makeup that is both sheer and sultry. And now we’re passing them on to you:

For Face: The secret to sheer foundation (you know, φορεματα

galajurken
abendkleider

the kind that lets your freckles stand proud) is first to choose a foundation that is already a bit more on the sheer side, and then to cut it with moisturizer. So we mixed equal parts CoverGirl NatureLuxe Silk Foundation and Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution until we had a mixture that would offer a bit of coverage, but wouldn’t cover up Chloe’s naturally beautiful skin tone and freckles. Shana’s other secret, of course, is to then blend your foundation into your skin using the Beauty Blender we showed you last week (that’s that crazy thing that looks like a pink foam egg, and which you can totally pick up at a place like Target), which will ensure that the mixture gets blended into your skin evenly.

Another tip for keeping this look natural: you’ll notice that the steps above call for bronzer. Well, if we learned anything during our P&G Twitter chat a few weeks back, it’s that not all bronzers are created the same (and um, that you shouldn’t put bronzer all over your face, MEG). Shana specifically suggests using a matte bronzer to keep your skin’s natural texture and tone (for Chloe, we opted for CoverGirl’s Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer, which is specially formulated for darker skin tones), but if you do decide that you want to go with little more shimmer, just be sure to avoid anything with actual glitter in it (really, this goes for all makeup when you plan to be photographed, unless you’re headed to a rave in 1998). This is because anything with glitter is going to reflect light in a weird way and make you look unnatural in the shots.

For Eyes: In addition to foundation, dark eye makeup has been my nemesis ever since I got my first Wet ‘n Wild eyeliner in middle school. I love the way dramatic eye makeup looks when I put it on, but it always seems like 10 minutes later I end up with dark circles under my eyes. Shana says that one of the best ways to avoid dark eye circles is to apply mascara to your top lashes only (don’t bother with the bottom lashes). But if you’re really sold on wanting a little more definition on the bottom of your eyes, then you can take your eyeliner (the same pencil that you used to create the cat eye) and apply a little bit to a small flat eye brush. Then smudge that brush into your lower lashes to make them appear thicker.

Another tip: this look requires a fair amount of precision with your eye pencil. If you don’t always have a steady hand when applying a straight line (guilty as charged), just apply a small amount of your Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution to the tip of a Q-Tip and keep it handy to clean up any errant lines or smudges that creep up during application. It acts as a magic eraser (seriously, just swipe it over the mistake and it literally disappears) and allows for you to fix small areas without undoing the rest of your look.

Lastly, if you’re worried that the cat eye look is going to be difficult, fret not. Just line your eye like you normally would (starting at the inner corner and working your way to the outer corner), but instead of following the line all the way to the corner of your eye, turn it up slightly just before you hit the outside corner. For extra drama, make your line a little thicker than you normally would and place it just above your lash line. And practice a little, it’s as easy as that. For this look we brought back our CoverGirl LiquilineBlast eyeliner (this time in Dark Brown), which is the awesome product we told you about a few weeks ago (it’s liquid liner, but it looks and feels like a pencil thus eliminating any chances for that moment when you accidentally get liquid eyeliner all in your eyeballs). The CoverGirl LiquilineBlast liner naturally wants to draw a thicker, more opaque line on your eyes, so most of the work is going to be done for you (not that I tried this at home the other night and discovered these things on my own or anything.hääpuvut
gallakjoler
Plus size dresses That would be super lame).

And as always, if you have questions about how to modify this look, or which products would be best for your skin tone? Shana is usually standing by to answer them in the comments (because she’s awesome like that), but you can always direct your questions at @PGBeauty for their expert advice (or if you’re not on Twitter, post your questions on their Facebook page for more info).

How To Dramatic Smokey Eye

May 17th, 2013

The great thing about doing a smokey eye for your wedding is that even though the look is dramatic, most of the technique revolves around the word “smudge,” so it’s relatively easy to accomplish once you get the hang of it. For our final P&G tutorial (thanks again P&G!), we wanted to tone down the drama of the smokey eye a bit to make the look a little more wedding-y and a little less club-y. However, you can easily adjust the intensity to your taste. (But if you do have a wedding out at the club, please send it to us? Yes?)

Now, a few tips from Maria on perfecting this look:φορεματα

galajurken

Keep The Look Balanced: The ultimate trick for making the smokey eye work is to keep everything else about your makeup as natural and subdued as possible. This means just a light dusting of blush along the apples of your cheeks (and a little highlighter on your cheekbones for contouring), and stay away from any kind of bold lip color unless you’re going for a Dolly Parton themed wedding (in which case, I don’t even care if you submit to us, just invite me to it, PLEASE).

For Eyes: Getting the smokey eye look down is all about layering. First you want to apply a cream shadow as a base (remember the awesome CoverGirl Intense Shadowblast with the primer built in?) on the part of your eyelid that sits just over your eyeball. Then over that, you’re going to place a rich black cream shadow in a thick line on the same part of your eyelid (we used CoverGirl Smokyshadowblast, which comes in a nifty shadow stick for easier application). Don’t be afraid if this part isn’t perfect because you’re going to smudge it up a little bit anyway. Then finish the layering by blending taupe shadow into the crease of your eye using a ponytail crease brush (which has bristles that form a ponytail shape) and working it down to the Shadowblast layer. The final result will be a black to taupe ombre effect going from lash line to crease.

Once you’re done contouring with shadow, how polished your smokey eyes look will depend largely on where you apply your eyeliner. (Has anyone else done that thing where you accidentally put it just a little too far down on your bottom lid and start looking like Bellatrix Lestrange?) Maria recommends applying eyeliner (we used CoverGirl LiquilineBlast liner, which has a built-in smudging tool, perfect for smokey eyes) on your lower lid, just between the lashes, and then smudging with the smudger tool. If you are worried about the liner looking too heavy, focus mostly on the outer part of your eye and use a lighter hand at the inner corners.

For Lips: Finish the look with a longwear lipstick in a light pink hue, gallakjoler
Plus size dresses top it with topcoat.

And that’s it! Away you go!abendkleider

hääpuvut The best part? If you don’t want something quite as dramatic as Jess’s look, you can totally modify this smokey eye with lighter colors for a more fresh-faced look, or if you want something a little more playful, swap out the black and brown for a more colorful combination like grey and purple. Once you’ve nailed the technique of layering and contouring your shadows, the possibilities are endless.

Lauren’s Wedding Planning Oh My! Dress

May 11th, 2013

Long time readers will remember my long and involved dress saga (if you don’t, it’s worth a read, because what an epic story it was). So it only seems fitting that we’re coming full circle, and Assistant Editor Lauren is here with the first installment of her dress story. Not to give away too much, but in it she’s naked and sweaty with a bee-keepers mesh hat on. So, you know there is that.

So Kamel and I have been watching Say Yes To The Dress because Oh my god that sh*t is caarraazzy! And I’m totally fascinated with people who think nothing of spending 5k on a dress whereas it takes me six months and a lot of potatoes to save 1/2 that amount. But oh the pretty! And oh I digress.

You guys –Quinceanera Dresses
abendkleider

I cannot BELIEVE I haven’t told everyone the story of my dress hunting experience! Because isn’t it supposed to be one of those ground breaking wedding planning moments? For some people it is. I’ve seen it on TV. I’ve seen the “oh my gosh this is THE ONE!” face and then the tears and the mother’s tears. So I know it’s not a myth, I know it happens to some people, probably to even some of you. Buying a wedding dress can be a long journey so when you finally make that decision I can see it being an emotional one.

My journey had two stops and the first was in Chicago where my dear friend, Maris, set me up an appointment at a used dress boutique. Because my goal was to find something that didn’t look like prom and was under a thousand. Preferably like six hundred bucks. I was stoked because this place had straight up designer dresses, but were all used so they were greatly reduced. I had never tried on a wedding dress before, I had never even really seen one up close. I had no idea what all of the different shapes meant or how they would look on my body. But I did know that something was amiss when the storefront had a little basket of socks and a sign asking us to remove our shoes before entering. The entire store was white. White carpet, walls, furniture. The saleswomen wore all white. There was a soon-to-be-bride trying on her possible wedding gown on their shiny, white runway in the middle of the store. A full on runway, raised off of the ground about a foot, with a three sided mirror at the end. This decadence had always been what I had imagined for wedding dress shopping. The troupe of girls, the champagne, the sitting room with the glittering chandelier, the runway. The runway? Then why was I suddenly in the midst of a full on run-and-hide panic attack?

First, I was sweating like a mofo because it was mid-June in Chicago and the humidity was upon us, and god knows trying on clothes while sweating is a real treat. Second, I was asked to wash my hands before I was allowed to touch any of the dresses, for fear I would sully them. Then I was shown to the back room, with Maris, where hundreds and hundreds of dresses hung in bags on rows and rows of racks. I was told my appointment would only allow for 6-10 dresses, so pick wisely, and then we were left to our own devices. And the clock was officially ticking. Maris was like a kid in a candy store, and bless her heart because if it wasn’t for her I would have probably apologized to the sweet lady in white and ran to the nearest bar. Maris was grabbing all varieties of dresses going, “Ooo THIS one! THIS ONE! Ooo lace? How do you feel about lace? Embellishment or not to embellishment?” and I would respond “nuumm? Eerr? Fuhhh…” and shrug my shoulders. Finally I was able to croak out, “I’m a little overwhelmed…” as I literally fanned my face trying desperately not to cry and be a total psycho in this fancy store. Maris continued to repeat, “Lauren this is SHOPPING. You know how to do this! Start picking things!”

And we did. The sales lady eventually lugged out 6 lumps of fabric in bags and told me to get undressed and to put on a robe. And then almost immediately told me to take the robe off and try to step into the first dress. No one told me the sales people dress you. No one gave me any headsup this was a lot like when you go and get fitted for bras. And definitely no one told me how much effing fabric a wedding dress is. Once the dress was clipped to me, I teetered out, lugging the 20 lbs of fine cloth with me, and stepped up on the run way platform while Maris oooed and clapped from her seated position. When I looked in the mirror I was… embarrassed! Where had I gone and who was this old lady looking back at me? Suddenly I had aged 10 years and gained 30 lbs. Where was I under all of this? I couldn’t be found. But I swallowed it as the sales lady hammered me with questions I couldn’t answer. “How do you like the fit? What about this detailing? Is the sweet heart low enough? What do you think about the train length?” I played vague and hustled back into the dressing room for the next round, because I didn’t know! I didn’t know how I looked! I have been trying on formal dresses since I was 15. I went to an all girls school and we had at least two formal dances a year and I went to every one of them. I know how this works, and while wedding dress shopping… I was struck dumb.

By this time I was full on sweating.festklänningar
Plus size clothing The lights were hot, I was bloated from humidity, and the dress was thick and heavy. The next dress to try on would only work going over my head, so my sales woman politely asked me to put on a face net. Like a bee keeper but with cinching so it stayed under my chin. God forbid I get any of my makeup and/or face grease on these fine specimens. She then asked me to take off my bra and put my arms in a diving position above my head and she would hoist the dress over me and I would aim to shoot through the hole. Dear god, I really did it. When the dress slid over my head, the mass amounts of tulle got sucked up over my hips so the dress wouldn’t fit probably. That brave sales lady, without any hesitation, reached up under the skirt, in my sweaty under pinnings, to try to free the bunching while I directed her from above, face mask now pulled up like a lunch lady’s hair net, my boobs just a side show at this point. It was around this time where she actually asked me if I’d like a glass of water since “I seemed a little warm,” and since her face was literally in my nude, mesh underpanted crotch for a good amount of time, I took pity on her even through my embarrassment.

Another point to make: I could not afford any of the dresses I tried on. The lowest they got was just a bit over a thousand, and with tax and fitting there was no way it was going to happen. But saying that they were too expensive, that the cheapest dresses available were above my price range made me feel like pauper. And like I was wasting the sales woman’s time. Which… I kind of was. Except I wasn’t wasting my time, or Maris’s time for that matter, because I needed to do this, I needed to understand what I didn’t want, what I couldn’t handle and I needed to have that moment of “What the f*ck am I doing?” so I could move past it. I also needed to try on the dresses with descriptions like mermaid, fit and flare, tulip, trumpet, and A-line. Because really, those words mean nothing until the dress is on your body and you suddenly can’t find your waist. I left the appointment without The One, to say the least, and with immense relief, to say the most. I left also realizing that wedding dress shopping is a lot like buying a car, everyone is in for the hard sell.trouwjurken
Hääpuvut Your entourage wants you to buy one, the sales ladies want you to commit on the spot and I, at least, only knew two things: I couldn’t be naked, and I would not go above a certain number.

This is not where my dress journey ends, but I have future posts to fill, and it’s a full 6 months until my wedding – I can’t give away too much too soon! You have to have something to read for my grad post, after all.

Indie Wedding Jewelry & Accessories My Cellar Door & Nomsa

May 11th, 2013

It’s been a long crazy APW week, with a lot of intense posts and discussion and community. Which is why I’m delighted to end the week with some good old fashioned indie shopping. Mmmm. I’m delighted to introduce you to the brand new APW sponsor, Ashlee, who has two stores: My Cellar Door, where she sells beautiful handmade jewelry and Nomsa (Pretty Little Things), where she sells indie accessories and jewelry. Shopping that supports a working artist? Hooray! Her work is beautiful, and affordable (and was recently featured at Anthropologie). She also gives discounts on multiples, which makes her stores an extra great place to shop for weddings. It’s great for wedding jewelry, bridesmaid’s gifts, and um, just for shopping? For yourself? For no reason? Yeah. Happy Friday.

My Cellar Door

So! Because I love you,Quinceanera Dresses

I picked some of my favorite pieces for your shopping pleasure. Like this Geometry necklace, $24, and some other slightly more indie picks: the black hole necklace for $29, or the pyrite (fool’s gold) nugget necklace for $24. Please wear these to your wedding? Or, you know, just with a tee-shirt.

I think the Gold Filigree Lace necklace for $23 would look killer with a simple sheath wedding dress. And a few other graceful picks that I loved were the goddess-y Brass Leaf Charm necklace for $23, and the sea-foam quartz square earrings for $24. Yum.

But maybe you want something more classic for your wedding? Well, I’ve so got you covered. How about this lovely gold infinity necklace (Which is clearly perfect for your wedding day. Infinity! Get it! Ha! Sigh.) for just $25. I have to admit that even my tastes in traditional jewelry veer a bit towards the quirky, but I’m awfully fond of this simple vintage brass locket necklace for $23. And for the actually classic among you? This freshwater coin pearl necklace would be a beautiful gift for your ladies, at just $19. Indie bridesmaids’ jewelry gifts for the win!

Nomsa (Pretty Little Things)

In Ashlee’s shop Nomsa, she has more pops of color, festklänningar
Plus size clothing hair things, and floral accessories. I’m very fond of these purple mum earrings, and think they would be kicky little bridesmaids’ earrings (and a great way to tie together generally coordinated but not matching outfits).

And oh my god you guys. The Guinea Feather Headband? I don’t even know if I should recommend that you wear it as a bride, or give it to your bridesmaids or just wear it every day, or what. But I want one now. For me. For now. Forever.

And finally! The flowers that made her famous!trouwjurken
Hääpuvut These Poppy Red Satin Flower Hair Pins are $14, and she just sold bunches of them to Anthropologie, but you can get your own from her directly! Also, there are these beautiful white floral hairpins, if you want something bridal but still sassy for $17.

So happy shopping ladies. Get yourself something lovely and affordable. You deserve it. And happy Friday.
